What is Via ferrata?

A belay route (also called ferrata after the Italian Via Ferrata) is a route in difficult to access rocky or mountainous terrain, which is equipped with a belay steel rope, iron stupas, or other aids for climbing. The aim of such adaptations is to make the terrain accessible to visitors who are not experienced in climbing.
